Mr. William Franklin “Pete” Humphries, age 82, of Roanoke, died Friday, July 22, 2011, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.  He was the husband of Sara Lawrence Humphries.

                Mr. Humphries was born May 30, 1929, the son of the late William Ivan Humphries and Dollie Ann Bowen Humphries. Pete served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was employed by Westvaco, Inc.

                In addition to his wife, Sara Lawrence Humphries, Mr. Humphries is survived by two sisters, Mildred Vent of Covington and Ruth Maddy of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

                In addition to his parents, William Ivan Humphries and Dollie Ann Bowen Humphries, Mr. Humphries was preceded in death by three brothers and eleven sisters.

                A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 28, 2011, in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Robert “Sonny” Wiseman officiating.

                Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at Cedar Hill Cemetery by 10:30 A.M.

                Graveside rites will be conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
