Vernon Brown Mr. Wesley Vernon Brown, age 75, of 1431 S. Franklin Avenue, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor. He was the husband of Mona Wickline Brown. Mr. Brown was born November 5, 1934 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Dunlap Ernest Brown and Gertrude Long Brown. He was a member of Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Brown retired from MeadWestvaco with thirty-nine years service as an electrician and was a past president of Local 464 IBEW Union. He was past fire chief and member of the Dunlap Fire & Rescue Squad and a lifetime member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department and White Sulphur Springs Rescue Squad. He was inducted into the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department/Rescue Squad Hall of Fame in 2008. Mr. Brown was a founding member of the Alleghany County Fire and Rescue Association. He was a former member of the Covington Moose Lodge #610 L.O.O.M. In addition to his wife, Mona Wickline Brown, Mr. Brown is survived by two sons, Gary A. Brown and wife, Martha and David W. Brown, all of Covington; two daughters, Debbie B. Taylor and husband, Greg of Covington, Lee Anne B. Churchman and husband, David of Chesapeake; one brother, Arnold Brown and wife, Viola of Richmond; one sister, Evelyn B. Drummond of Covington; eight grandchildren, Matthew Churchman and wife, Erika, Hannah Brown, Joshua Taylor, Sarah Brown, Kaytelyn Brown, Samuel Brown, Emily Churchman, Samantha Churchman; three sisters-in-law, Regina Brown, Norma Rock, Barbara Ratliff; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dunlap Ernest Brown and Gertrude Long Brown, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Brown; one sister, Ruth Brown Hayslett; four brothers-in-law, Ellis Hayslett, Harley Raymond Drummond, Walter Ratliff, Lorna “Cubby” Wickline. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 5, 2009 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department and Dunlap Fire and Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
