Mr. Robert Delano “Buck” Cook, age 72, of 3413 Jackson River Road, died Friday, October 9, 2009, at his residence. 

                Mr. Cook was born October 11, 1936 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Vincent Herbert Cook and Alice Walton Cook.   A lifetime member of this community, he was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1956.  Mr. Cook was a longtime employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, the Covington Moose Lodge and was an avid hunter.

                Mr. Cook is survived by a son; Timmy Cook and family of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a long time companion, Virginia Baker of White Sulphur Springs, WV; a brother, Melvin Cook of Richmond; three sisters, Helen C. Frame of Covington, Olivia C. McCormick of Cliftondale Park, and Betty Kern of Covington; three nephews, James Frame, Edsel Frame, Jr., Edward O. Cook; four nieces, Susan Taylor, Vicky Ball, Pat Conner and Sandra Jones.

                 In addition to his parents, Vincent Herbert Cook and Alice Walton Cook, Mr. Cook was preceded in death by a nephew, Danny McCormick.

                A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 13, 2009, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Faith Weedling officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.

                The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Betty Kern, 3495 Jackson River Road, Covington.

                Pallbearers will be Mike Baker, Mike Henderson, Buddy Cook, Andy Wiseman, Jim Kern, Calvin Conner, Tyler Conner, and Daniel Taylor.  Alternate pallbearers will be Michael Taylor and Darfow Rice.

                Funeral rites will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Monday evening by Covington Moose Lodge.
