Norma Callahan

           Mrs. Norma Farley Callahan, age 67, of 1519 S. Greenlawn Avenue, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at her residence

          Mrs. Callahan was born October 12, 1941 in Nicholas County, WV, the daughter of the late Elmer L. “Buck” Dorsey and her stepmother, Lola M. Dorsey with whom she was reared and her birth mother, Erna B. Carson.  She was a homemaker.

          Mrs. Callahan is survived by two daughters, Sherry F. Hensley and Donna F. Herald and husband, Steve; eleven grandchildren, Nicole May of Covington, James May of Covington, Kristin S. Pottmeyer of Charleston, WV, Michael Herald of Covington, Scott Herald of Covington, David Herald of Dillwyn, Janelle H. Booze of Clifton Forge, Keith Herald, Travis Herald, Kendall Wood and Hunter Ardry, all of Clifton Forge; eight great grandchildren, Peyton Broughman, Kadence Broughman, Gabriel Booze, Preston Booze, McKenzie Pottmeyer, Brayden Herald, Noah Herald and Halley Herald; two sisters, Wahneta Bown and Helen Bailes; and many special friends who affectionately referred to her as “Grandma”.

          In addition to her father and stepmother, Elmer L. “Buck” Dorsey and Lola M. Dorsey, and her birth mother, Erna B. Carson, Mrs. Callahan was preceded in death by one daughter, Annette Marie Farley; eight siblings, Magdline Dowdy, Elma Amick, Rosetta Payton, Charles Cole, Jennings Cole, Donald Johns, Bernadine Weaver and Arbutus McClung; and many cousins.

          A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 8, 2009, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Pastor Frankie Neff officiating. 

          At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Donna and Steve Herald, 1505 Chestnut Street, Clifton Forge and Sherry Hensley and James May, 309 E. Prospect Street, Covington.

          The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Covington Rescue Squad, 435 Hawthorne Street, Covington, VA 24426.
