 Mildred Smith                 

                Mrs. Mildred Frances Crawford Smith, age 88, of 410 S. Craig Avenue, died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at the Woodlands Health and Rehab Center, Clifton Forge. 

                She was the wife of the late Cecil Franklin Smith.

                Mrs. Smith was born January 10, 1922 in Craig County, the daughter of the late Harless Crawford and Ida Adams Crawford and was the last surviving member of her family.  

                 She moved to this community in 1929 and was a graduate of Covington High School.  

                 Mrs. Smith was a former employee of Bernson Weaving & Silk Mill in Buena Vista before returning to Covington about 25 years ago. 

                 She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed activities at the church especially the 50 Plus Senior group. 

                Mrs. Smith loved going to her exercise class three times a week and her main focus in life was on her faith, her friends and her family.

                Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Betty Smith Alford and husband, Harold of Buena Vista and Nancy Smith Swisher and husband, Richard of Charlottesville; four grandchildren, Kimberly Alford, Scott Alford and wife, Leann, Wendy Bolen and husband, Pete, Kevin Swisher; two great grandchildren, Kayla Alford and Mackenzie Alford; a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Mazie McAllister, Ruth Armentrout, Laura McNulty, Carol Patterson, and 50 Plus and church family.

                In addition to her parents, Harless Crawford and Ida Adams Crawford, and her husband, Cecil Franklin Smith, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by four brothers, William “Bill” Crawford, Richard Crawford, Kenneth Crawford and Clinton Crawford, and one sister, Gladys Howard.

                A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 18, 2010, in the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Price officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Burnham.  Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

                Pallbearers will be Frank Sizemore, Larry Ruble, Perry Wiseman, Bryan Barbour, Paul Howard, Mike Dabbs and Wayne Howard.

                The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.

                The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Faith Baptist Church Building Fund, 311 Jackson Drive, Covington, VA 24426.
