  Maxine Burns

Mrs. Maxine McFadden Burns, age 76, of Naples, FL, died Friday, January 15, 2010.  She was the wife of Oliver B. “Billy” Burns, Jr.

Mrs. Burns was born May 9, 1933 in Covington, the first child of the late John Franklin McFadden and Bonnie Douglas McFadden.  Maxine graduated Covington High School in 1951.

She was married at First Presbyterian Church in Covington on January 18, 1952 and enjoyed nearly 58 years of marriage.  Her greatest love and pride resided in her two sons, grandchildren and husband who will miss her deeply.

Maxine was active in the garden clubs and in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Covington.  While managing a home and raising her sons, the family moved to Norwalk, CT in 1967.  There she continued her participation in Beta Sigma Phi and held several Chapter offices.  She found time to be active in the Norwalk Woman’s Club and to serve as president of the Norwalk Meals on Wheels.  She was a dedicated member of either the Presbyterian or Methodist church wherever she lived, giving freely of her time and talents.

Her personal interests and hobbies were artistic in nature where she displayed exceptional talent in interior decorating, flower arranging and home design.  Maxine could find beauty where others seldom noticed.  Sunsets and cloud formations over the Gulf of Mexico were favorites.  Maxine and Billy retired in 1994 and moved from the cold weather and hustle and bustle of the Northeast to the beauty and quiet of the Vineyards in Naples, FL where before moving, Maxine oversaw the construction of the home she had designed.  She was awarded Girl of the Year by the Naples Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.  Maxine was a member of the Shells Club of Naples and Probus of Naples.

Mrs. Burns is survived by her loving husband, Oliver B. “Billy” Burns, Jr., devoted sons, Michael Scot Burns, Patrick Neal Burns and wife, Wendy; three grandchildren, Miranda Lee Burns, Erin Elizabeth Burns, Ryan Oliver Burns; two sisters, Freda Mae Baker and Carol Elizabeth Bazzarre and husband, Frank; two step-grandchildren, Christopher Piccolo and Daniel Vinhais.

In addition to her parents, John Franklin McFadden and Bonnie Douglas McFadden, Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Franklin McFadden, and a sister, Shirley Ann Perry.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 23, 2010, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Throckmorton officiating.  Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Lipscomb, Larry McFadden, Roger Bazzarre, Frank Bazzarre, Jr., Neal Burns and Michael Burns.  Honorary pallbearer will be Greg Lipscomb.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Va. 22312.
