James DillMr. James Isaac Dill went home to the Lord on September 17, 2010. He was born in Goshen, VA on August 28, 1929 to James A. and Rena H. Dill. He was valedictorian of his 1947 senior class at Goshen High School and was a graduate of Dunsmore Business College in Staunton, VA. “Jimmy” served his country proudly and bravely in the Korean War in 1951-52 in the U.S. Army – 2nd Division Infantry. Following the war, he went to work at the Westvaco Corporation in Covington where he had a distinguished career. He held numerous positions with the company and retired as Industrial Relations Manager after 47 years of dedicated service. He served from 1978-1995 on the Board of Directors of the Alleghany Regional Hospital where he held the office of Vice President. Upon the sale of the hospital, he was instrumental in the formation and became Vice President of the Alleghany Foundation where he served for many years. He was honored in 2008 by a special presentation from the foundation recognizing his invaluable service. Mr. Dill was a member of the Virginia State Board for the Rights of the Disabled from 1985-89. He was president of the Casteel Hunt Club for many years, a former member of the Covington Jaycees and former treasurer and past president of the Covington Lions Club. He proudly supported the Westvaco Rescue Squad as well. He was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church. Jimmy was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and an excellent marksman. His favorite pastimes were hunting, enjoying Mother Nature at Casteel Hunt Club, and spending time with his family and friends. He was especially fond of going on “adventures” with his son and grandsons, which he did quite often. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Regina O. Dill of Covington; his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Julia Dill and his two grandsons, Drew and Daniel of Roanoke, VA; his sisters, Nancy D. Nichols of Greenville, AL and Charlotte D. Lawson of Yardley, PA; his nieces, Kim Bowden of Roanoke, VA and Katie Zachary of Pelham, AL and nephews, Robert Lawson of Yardley, PA and Jeff O’Connor of Clifton Forge; sister-in-law, Nancy O’Connor of Covington as well as a number of great nieces and nephews. The family invites you to visit with our family in honor of Mr. Dill on Monday at Loving Funeral Home in Covington, VA from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Goshen Baptist Church in Goshen, VA with Rev. Virgil Woodie presiding.
