 George Taylor

                Mr. George Clyde Taylor, Jr., age 86, of Golden Living Center, formerly of 408 E. Gray Street, died Friday, July 15, 2011, at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany, Low Moor.  He was the husband of Gladys Arneta Linton Taylor.

                Mr. Taylor was born September 22, 1924 in Glen Wilton, VA, the son of the late George Clyde Taylor and Gertrude “Gertie” Lena Bryant Taylor.  He was honorably discharged from the United States Army Corps of Engineers.  Mr. Taylor was employed as a machine tender by Westvaco, retiring with forty-four years of service and was a lifetime member of Local 0675 United Paperworkers International Union where he served as a job analyst.  George was a member and former Sunday School Superintendent of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church.  Mr. Taylor was a lifetime (sixty-year) member and Post Commander of American Legion Post 4.  He was also a member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows; Total Action Against Poverty (TAP), WECCU Credit Union and worked at the Food Pantry.  George also umpired baseball for the Covington Little League.

                In addition to his wife, Gladys Arneta Linton Taylor, Mr. Taylor is survived by one son, Barry Taylor and wife, Dreama of Staunton; three grandchildren, Charles H. “Chuck” Zimmerman, III, Lisa Zimmerman Holt and Buffy Taylor Fagg, all of Covington; seven great grandchildren, Chuckie Zimmerman, Noah Zimmerman, Steven Holt, Taylor Holt, Madison Holt, Brad Allen Stover, Jr., Molly Kai Fagg, all of Covington; one brother, Cecil Raymond Taylor of Clifton Forge; one sister, Frances Anita Taylor Lambert of Vinton; one son-in-law, Charles H. Zimmerman, II of Covington; and several nieces and nephews.

                In addition to his parents, George Clyde Taylor and Gertrude “Gertie” Lena Bryant Taylor, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Joyce Taylor Zimmerman on January 9, 2009; twin sons who died at birth; and one brother, Donald Lewis Taylor in 1938.

                A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 18, 2011, at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Fleenor officiating.  Entombment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

                Graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #4.

                The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
