Mrs. Elizabeth Beninghove Persinger, age 90, of 320 Hershberger Road, Apt 213, Roanoke, formerly of Covington, died Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Lee Humphries Persinger who preceded her in death in 1972.

            Mrs. Persinger was born March 31, 1920 in Arvonia, the daughter of the late Charles Beninghove and Lelia Whitlow Beninghove.  She was a graduate of the School of Nursing at University of Virginia and for a time, she was a director of nurses as well as a tuberculosis nurse.  Mrs. Persinger was a public health nurse with the Covington Health Department for thirty years before retiring.  She was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in Roanoke and had attended Granbery United Methodist Church. 

            Elizabeth’s greatest joys were her family, her dear friends and her faith.  She loved flowers and growing vegetables.  She was a member of the Pines Garden Club that revived Fort Young and established a wildflower garden.  She also helped establish the church supper program at Granbery Memorial which after twenty years is still enjoyed by church members.  More than anything, she loved to cook and to have her friends and family enjoy the rewards of her considerable talent.  She was a mother, a nurse and a fierce friend.

            Mrs. Persinger is survived by a daughter, Susan Persinger of Saxapahaw, NC.

            In addition to her parents, Charles Beninghove and Lelia Whitlow Beninghove, and her husband, Lee Humphries Persinger, Mrs. Persinger was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Lee.

            A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Monday, October 4, 2010, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Grant officiating.  A private interment will be held at a later time.

            The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until service time at Loving Funeral Home.
