Candis Burchette Mrs. Candis Kern Burchette, age 94, formerly of Hot Springs, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at the Woodlands, Clifton Forge. She was the wife of Donald Lewis Burchette who preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Burchette was born May 7, 1915 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Jacob Snead Kern and Lillie Gertrude Corron Kern. A lifetime resident of this community, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Burchette was a member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and a former member of the Women of the Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Burchette is survived by a brother-in-law, Edward Burchette and wife, Gertie of Princeton, WV; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Looney of Princeton, WV; eight nephews, Daryle Kern and wife, Barbara of Eugene, OH, who was raised in the home as a young child, Charles Whitmore of Clifton Forge, Ralph Vick of Tennessee, Richard Vick of Arizona, Carlos Alderman of Ronceverte, Ellis Alderman and wife, Pat of Altoona, PA, Ryland Burchette and wife, Patty of Falling Spring; Davis Burchette and wife, Jean of West Chester, PA; one niece, Shelby Whitson of Atlanta, GA; two grand nephews, Clayton Alderman and Bruce Alderman; seven grand nieces, Patricia Preglisi and husband, Wayne, Debbie Bush and husband, Martin, Malinda Cole, Candy Harshbarger, Cindy Cox, Anna Lee Whitson, Pam Leavitt; and a number of other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Jacob Snead Kern and Lillie Gertrude Corron Kern and her husband, Donald Lewis Burchette, Mrs. Burchette was preceded in death by three brothers, Seymour H. Kern, Cary F. Kern, James Franklin Kern; two sisters, Annie Kern Alterman, Marie Kern Vick; nieces and nephews, Francis Whitmer, Ida and Carl Garrett, Virgina and Gary Cerotsky, Charles Alderman. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 16, 2010, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. James Slate officiating, assisted by the Rev. Brent Williams. Interment will follow in Falling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rodney Warren Kyle, Charles Cornwalt, Brian Burchette, Leroy Perkins, Eddie Smith and Bob Lockhart. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until service time at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Ryland and Patty Burchette, 302 Big Cedar Drive, Hot Springs.
