  Buddy Fisher

               Mr. Marrion Woodward “Buddy” Fisher, age 91, formerly of Covington, died Monday, June 13, 2011, in Martinsville, VA.  He was the husband of sixty-four years to Vera Goodwin Fisher.

                Mr. Fisher was born March 7, 1920 in Bath County, the son of the late Gardner Woodward Fisher and Rosa Quate Fisher.  He was a graduate of Valley High School, Class of 1937. Buddy served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in the European Theatre of Operations and supervised the aircraft and automotive maintenance in his division.  After his discharge he was a member of the U S Army reserve for twenty years until his retirement in 1966.  From 1937 until 1964, he was employed as an apprentice carpenter by the former O.E. Parker and Company.  In 1964, Mr. Fisher became a superintendant and later co-owner of H. Phil Burks Contractor and Company.  Buddy was a dedicated member of the Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he served his church as the oldest trustee and deacon as well as being deeply involved in the maintenance and upkeep of the church he loved so much.  He was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF&AM and Covington Royal Arch Chapter #23.

                 In addition to his wife, Vera Goodwin Fisher, Mr. Fisher is survived by one son, Jerry Carpenter of Ridgeway; two daughters, Barbara Ann Fisher Atkinson and husband, Paul T. “Pete” Atkinson, III of Gloucester and Sue Carol Fisher Carr and husband, Keith Carr of Ridgeway; four grandchildren, Laura Schneider and husband, David, Peter Atkinson and wife, DeAnna, Erin Carr, and Matt Carr; and three great grandchildren, Emma Schneider, Abby Schneider and Coralee Atkinson.

                In addition to his parents, Gardner Woodward Fisher and Rosa Quate Fisher, Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Fisher.

                A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 16, 2011, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating.  Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

                Graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF&AM.

                Pallbearers will be Glen Bailey, Phil Burks, Jr., Cecil Walton, Eldridge Johnson, Kevin Wiley, Matt Carr, and Peter Atkinson.

Alternate pallbearers will be Pete Atkinson, Keith Carr and William M. Dressler, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Sizemore and Harrison Fridley.

                The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
