Barbara Gillespie

                Mrs. Barbara Barker Gillespie, age 86, formerly of Covington, died Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Richfield Recovery & Care Center, Salem.  She was the wife of the late A.E. Gillespie, Jr.

                Mrs. Gillespie was born February 11, 1924 in Boone County, WV, the daughter of the late Stonewall J. Barker and Ella Maude Barker.  She was employed as a cosmetologist and bookkeeper for the former A & P as well as Kroger.  She was a member of Covington Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.  Mrs. Gillespie was a member of the Good Hope Rebekah Lodge #8 where she served as president of Western Rebekah Assn #10 and president of Rebekah Assembly for 1987 and 1988.

                Mrs. Gillespie is survived by three grandchildren, Jason Gillespie, Jessica Gillespie, and Megan Gillespie, all of Largo, FL; one brother, Stonie Barker of Naples, FL; a sister-in-law, Ileita Gillespie Weikle of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

                In addition to her parents, Stonewall J. Barker and Ella Maude Barker, and her husband, A.E. Gillespie, Jr., Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wayne Gillespie; an infant daughter; one brother, Oather Ray Barker; and four sisters, Melba Beckett, Vada Redmond, Esta Maires and Sada Atkins.

                A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Poluikis officiating.
